Your Links and E-mail

Excellent e-mail from you guys, as always.

Shane Lynch sent me a link to a bizarre and funny feature called "Steve, Don't Eat it!" It's a series of posts written by "Steve" as he tries out some of the most absolutely disgusting food ever. Here are just a few examples:
--pickled pork rinds
--Natto (fermented soybeans)
--Cuitlacoche (corn with black fungus, and my nominee for best and most disgusting pictures)
--prison wine
--silkworm pupas

It's both funny and absolutely disgusting, with frequent obscenities (and can you blame him?), and you can find it here.

From Sirius, a link to something called "The Size of Our World." It's the best representation I've ever seen of how objects in the solar system relate to each other in size. Very cool, and you can see it here.

Also from Sirius, a very interesting article about the La Brea Tar Pits, and you can read it here.

Mike Ciuffo, in reference to the Sony failed formats post:
You forgot CRVdisk! This was a format similar to a floppy, but instead of magnetic tape, it had a gigantic one-time-use only laser disk inside. Didn't go anywhere for obvious reasons.

Also about Sony, from Marc Dufour:
Sony’s losing streak at proprietary media is much longer than fifteen years, or even twenty.

In 1976, they tried to introduce a new analog audio media format, "ELCASET".

You’ll find more info here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elcaset

That's one I had absolutely never heard of before.
