Kazakhstan's Spaceship Junkyard
There was a remarkable item on Slashdot yesterday. Here's an excerpt from the post:What happens to the booster stages of rockets? They fall back to earth, and in most cases into the oceans. But not in Baikonur, Kazakhstan, where the first stages fall over populated farmland.
The article attached to the link is very brief, but there's an accompanying photo essay that's brilliant. In particular, photo #9 is one of the most memorable and amazing photographs I've ever seen.
