Cajun Seafood, SCTV Style
We went to Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen for dinner on Saturday night. From their website:
Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen puts you "down on the bayou" with its savory aromas of spicy Cajun cooking and the sounds of Dixieland jazz.
I'm not a big fan of the bayou, really. The first two things I think of when I heard the word "bayou" are "stink" and "West Nile Virus."
This is a chain restaurant, but the seafood is decent. And Gloria loves Louisiana food because that's where she grew up. Especially gumbo.
"Do you want to order some gumbo?" she asked. "I'm having a cup."
"Isn't gumbo just dirty soup?" I asked. "Oh wait, that's rice. What is it about Cajun food that adding the word 'dirty' actually becomes a feature?"
The most impressive thing about Pappadeaux was our waiter. Do you remember SCTV? There was an actor on the show named Eugene Levy, and he was hilarious, a very funny man during the SCTV years.
That was our waiter. This guy was an absolute replica of Eugene Levy (curly hair model), complete with authentic glasses. He was about a foot shorter, though, so he actually looked more like a Eugene Levy action figure. A good portion of our meal turned into an SCTV/Eugene Levy retrospective.
He got a great tip, too. I mean, who wouldn't overtip Eugene Levy?
