Gary Gygax

There have been some very nice tributes to Gary Gygax in the last few days. Penny Arcade was first, but I think my favorite has been from The Order of the Stick, which has a very poignant comic in his honor.

Dan Spezzano wrote a post over at Old Board Gamer's Blog, and it helped me understand how Gary Gygax's legacy was so different from a writer or a composer. He didn't create memories for us--he created a framework that allowed us to create our own.

Lastly, here's a BBC article titled Five things that Dungeons & Dragons begat. It's not a particular illuminating article, but I think it's notable for the acknowledgement of Gygax's contribution to our culture.
