Supermercado

I went out for a walk yesterday after dinner.

Christmas Day is the best day of the year to walk, at least for me, because no road is crowded. You can walk on what is normally the busiest street and it will be deserted.

It's quiet, in other words, which is the best gift of all.

I realized as I neared an intersection (on a route I never walk) that I was right next to the little Mexican grocery store I'd been to once before. I went because I couldn't find decent tortillas anywhere, and the ones this store had were much, much better. When I saw the OPEN light flashing, I realized I could pick some up.

This store is one-room small. It's assortment of items, though, is the supermarket equivalent of a bag of holding, because it has everything. I started paying attention as I walked around, making mental notes of the variety.

Tortillas. Meat. Dairy. Dry goods. Frozen section. Backpacks. Televisions.

That's right. 55" LCD televisions, new in box, right near the checkout register. It's spectacular.

Respect, little supermarket. Respect.
