The Rapatronic

DQ reader Mike Benedict sent in a link
(http://www.firstpulseprojects.net/bombproject/Pop.html) that he thought might have some images of those nuclear test vacation brochures from Las Vegas. I didn't find any of those, but I did stumble onto this: photographs taken by the Rapatronic.
The Rapatronic is a Camera made by the EG&G Co. in the 1950's to photograph atomic explosions at the rate of 1/1,000,000 of a second.

What exactly were they photographing?
Sequence of frames within the first 1/10,000,000 second of an atomic explosion exposed at 1/1,000,000 of a second.
