Eli 9.8 was doing homework."Why would you need to do the pros and cons of something?" he asked. The Vancouver game was on, in direct violation of basic homework-doing principles.
"Well, when you're having a hard time making your mind about something," Gloria said.
"That's right," I said. "For example, you could do the pros and cons of having a gorilla as a pet. Pros: gorillas are awesome. Cons: possibly lethal danger. Having to watch Animal Planet all the time. Sharing your room."
Eli and Gloria began talking again, and I listened for a few seconds, but obviously, I was still thinking about gorillas.
"The cost of bananas, I said."
"Dad, I love you," Eli said, laughing.
"He's in his own little world over there," Gloria said.
