Frankenstein in Baghdad
This book was recommended to me as part of the New York Public Library's "Literature in Translation" feature and it's superb. Beautifully written and incredibly clever, with meaning on multiple levels.
It's also dark. In a good way.

I forget many of the books I've read because they're often quite disposable. This one, though, will stick with me for a long time.
