James Cameron, Super-Genius

I think the problem is photographs.

People do something brilliant and other people start taking their photographs. There's a picture of James Cameron on the cover of the December issue of Wired looking all bravely visionary and shit.

That's usually the kiss of death for most of these people. They frame the magazine covers, and then when their next project is at a crucial point, they'll look at that photograph and feel like they have to live up to the image. A hundred million dollars over budget later, something smells like cat throw-up.

The next time he pulls out the Wired cover for wistful and fond viewing, he should pull out the screenplay for Rambo - First Blood Part 2, because he wrote that. That's a Macbeth-worthy stink that twenty years can't dissolve.

When you become rich and famous someday, don't have portraits taken. Remember that.
