One More Note on New ATI Cards

DQ reader Ron Watkins brought up something I missed about the new ATI Radeon cards: lower power consumption. The new cards don't need an external power connector and can operate with the 75w of power available from the PCI-Express slot.

In a long-term sense, that's very important. The last generation of high-end cards, including the X800 XT-PE, were consuming unbelievable amounts of power, and they all needed external power connectors. If that wasn't brought under control, it was going to be the primary limiter in terms of increasing performance in future generations of video cards.
