Jacques Demers
Former NHL coach and hockey legend Jacques Demers is illiterate.I mention this because it is incredibly brave of him to go public with this information. For a successful, highly-regarded 61-year old to make this kind of admission--I can't imagine how difficult it must be.

I highly recommend reading this, even if you're not a sports fan. It's not about hockey, really--it's about how people who are illiterate manage to function in society, some of them at a very high level. And there's a sidebar with some relatively stunning statistics about literacy levels in the U.S. and Canada.
