Uggghhh

If you're a Pittsburgh fan and you're reading this wireless FROM A LEDGE, please come back in.

And if you're not, here's what happened to Pittsburgh's prodigal quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, this morning (via Sportsline):
PITTSBURGH -- Steelers star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, the youngest quarterback to lead a team to the Super Bowl championship, was badly hurt in a motorcycle crash Monday and was undergoing surgery.

...the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported that police said Roethlisberger lost most of his teeth, fractured his left sinus cavity bone, suffered a 9-inch laceration to the back of his head and a broken jaw, and severely injured both of his knees.

Of course, he wasn't wearing a helmet.

Insert rant about stupid people not understanding physics [here].

The injuries were not described as life-threatening, but they sure don't sound like paper cuts. The guy's a phenomenal player and seems like a decent guy, and I only hope his career isn't over.

Anyone who wants to ride a motorcycle (or bicycle) without a helmet should be required to take a short course which would entirely consist of sitting in a moving car while an instructor drops a replica of their head out the window at 30 mph. They would pass the course after they went back and found all the pieces.
