Ironically

The kid that beat out Eli 14.8 at the first tryout was also at the tryout last night. He'd signed up for both tryouts and wanted the extra ice time, he said.

As it turns out, he's a great kid. Eli hung out with him and they played in the same group for the entire skate.

He's also better than I gave him credit for in the post yesterday. His technique is looser than Eli's, but he's very good. I implied that it was a huge difference, but it wasn't, based on what I saw last night. If you evaluated on the quality of technique only, you'd take Eli. But goalies are not always evaluated solely on that ability.

Anyway, it was a nice moment when they were hanging out together. If they had somehow both made the team, I'm sure they would have wound up being good friends.
