Truman and the Bomb

Thanks to DQ reader Lee Picard for a link to a fascinating story about the dropping of the atomic bomb. What this story focuses on are the millions of coded Japanese communications that were intercepted and decrypted, which provides new insight into what was actually happening inside Japan during that time. The entire archive is now declassified (as of 1995, a full set without redacts was released), and scholars have been pouring through it for information. It's all tremendously interesting and an excellent read:
