We All Saw This Coming...

Sony is plastered all over the front page of MSNBC.com. Here's the lead story for the entire site:
ANTI-PIRACY PAUSE
Sony BMG to suspend CD's with copy protection software
Music industry efforts stuttering

Here's the lead from the story:
WASHINGTON - Stung by continuing criticism, the world’s second-largest music label, Sony BMG Music Entertainment, promised Friday to temporarily suspend making music CDs with antipiracy technology that can leave computers vulnerable to hackers.

"Temporarily?" Good luck with that.

This isn't over. There will still be a ton of additional lawsuits filed. Sony was incredibly stupid in how they implemented DRM, and this public relations disaster isn't going to go away for them anytime soon. And anything they do implement in the future is going to scrutinized to an incredible degree.

They shot themselves in the foot, then when they were hopping, shot themselves in the face as well.

This is going to give consumer advocates a metric ton of ammunition when it comes to "anti-piracy" legislation in Congress. Sony did an excellent job of destroying the credibility of much of the entertainment industry when it comes to DRM.

Thanks, guys!
